DERMAL FILLER
AFTERCARE

It is important to follow these aftercare instructions carefully.
What to Expect After Treatment
It is normal to experience the following:

-
Swelling: This is common and may last up to 7 days, with some mild swelling persisting for up to 2 weeks.
-
Bruising and Hematomas: Surface bruising or deeper internal bruising may occur. This is part of the healing process and typically resolves within a week. Over-the-counter products like Hirudoid or arnica may help alleviate bruising.
-
Tenderness or Red Needle Marks: This should subside within a few days.
-
Asymmetry: Swelling can create temporary unevenness, which will typically resolve as the filler settles.
-
Firmness or Lumpiness: The treated area may initially feel firm or have small palpable lumps. Over the next 4 weeks, the filler will soften as it integrates with your tissue. If instructed by our team, gentle massage can help smooth out the area.
Specific Areas
-
Lip Fillers: Swelling is more pronounced in the upper lip and will settle over the 2 week integration period.
-
Jawline Fillers: Lumpiness along the jawline is common but will resolve as the filler integrates.

Aftercare Guidelines

DO
-
Apply a cool compress for 10 minutes per hour on the day of treatment to reduce swelling.
-
Keep your head elevated for 4 hours post-treatment—avoid lying down.
-
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
-
Take Panadol (paracetamol) for mild pain or discomfort.
-
Be patient—results take up to 4 weeks to finalise.
DON’T
-
Avoid touching the treated area for the first 6 hours. After this, you may gently cleanse your face.
-
Avoid applying makeup for 24 hours.
-
Refrain from alcohol for 48 hours post-treatment.
-
Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sweating, or exposure to intense heat (e.g., saunas) for 24 hours.
-
Do not fly domestically for 5 days or internationally for 7 days.
-
Avoid facials, waxing, energy-based treatments, or chemical peels for 2 weeks.
Potential Complications
While rare, complications can occur:

-
Vascular Occlusion: Signs include pale or dusky skin, "fishnet" patterns, persistent pain, or delayed capillary refill. If you notice these symptoms, contact us immediately or visit your nearest emergency department.
-
Infection: Symptoms include redness, tenderness, swelling, heat, nodules, or pus. Seek medical attention if these occur.
-
Cold Sores: Dermal fillers may trigger outbreaks in those with a history of cold sores. Antiviral treatments can help prevent or manage this.
Swelling, Bruising, and Pain Management
-
Use a cool compress as directed.
-
Arnica or Bromelain supplements may help reduce swelling and bruising.
-
For bruising, treatments like LED will help subside.
-
Avoid medications or supplements that increase bruising risk, such as aspirin or fish oil, unless prescribed.
Review and Retreatment
-
Aesthetic Review: Results should be reviewed no sooner than 2 weeks post-treatment, as swelling must fully subside. Earlier reviews may not provide an accurate assessment of symmetry or final results.
-
Retreatment: Additional treatments can be performed 1–6 months after your first session. Maintenance injections are typically required annually.
