Skin appointments at Mermaid Beach start with a skin consultation rather than a booked treatment: your practitioner examines your skin and goes through what you have used, what has irritated it and what you are doing now, because the plan includes what happens at home between appointments.
A course generally runs three to six needling sessions four to six weeks apart, so it is worth knowing the clinic is open on Saturdays — a course is much easier to keep to when one of the slots falls outside a work week. Skin treatments involve no prescription medicine, so the $35 doctor scripting fee does not apply unless you are also having an injectable treatment.

A treatment using fine needles on the skin. At your consultation your practitioner goes through your skin concerns, skin type and history, and current products and medications, then discusses whether needling is suitable for you, its risks including pigmentation change, preparation, aftercare and how any course would be planned.
A treatment using specific wavelengths of light. Your consultation covers your skin concerns, any medications or conditions that may affect suitability, possible side effects, and how sessions would be planned alongside any other treatment.
Comes before any skin treatment. Your skin history, what you use at home, sensitivity and any conditions are reviewed; suitability, risks, aftercare and a plan are discussed; and you decide afterwards whether to go ahead.

New patients: a $35 doctor scripting fee applies. This covers the prescribing consultation required before any Schedule 4 treatment. It applies to new patients and anyone who has not visited in the past 12 months, and is included in the quote you receive.

No. Skin needling, LED phototherapy and hydrafacial do not involve a Schedule 4 medication, so there is no prescribing consultation and the one-off $35 scripting fee does not apply — unless you are also having an injectable treatment at the same visit.

Opening hours are Monday 10am to 6pm, Tuesday 8am to 5pm, Thursday 10am to 7pm, Friday 9am to 3pm and Saturday 8am to 2pm. The clinic is closed Wednesday and Sunday. LED and hydrafacial have no downtime, so either fits around a work day.

All skin treatments carry some degree of risk. Skin needling commonly causes temporary redness, swelling, sensitivity and mild flaking; in rare cases it can cause infection, scarring or changes in pigmentation. LED phototherapy is generally low-risk. Hydrafacial may cause temporary redness in very reactive skin. All risks relevant to your skin and your plan are discussed in full at your consultation.
